Polar Vortex-What are your kids wearing to ski?

Brrrr…this has been a cold winter.  I know, we are skiers, right!?

But who doesn’t like the perfect  ski day of bluebird sunny skies and 25 degrees?  This year we haven’t seen many, if any of these days, especially any temperature above 15 degrees.  Because of these sub zero days (yes, we still ski in them,) I have had to dress my children and myself differently.

How to dress kids for skiing

  • Fleece Base Layer:  Hot Chilly and Obermeyer make great kids fleece base layers.
  • Smartwool socks
  • Patagonia Nano Puff Sweater
  • Ski pants
  • Ski jacket
  • Swany mittens
  • Fleece balaclava
  • Hand warmers
  • Boot Gloves (have you heard of these?  I swear by them now.)

They are layered well and not at all complaining about being bulky.  The weather doesn’t allow us to stay out for long periods of time but because we are dressed correctly when we are out, they are not cold and are really enjoying their time on the slopes.  The upside to this year’s Polar Vortex is the amount of lake effect snow that we wake up to every morning.
